A productive night for the Brits at the Golden Globes, claiming six awards.

Taut, stylish spy thriller The Night Manager gave star Tom Hiddleston his first Golden Globe for Leading Actor in a TV Film or MiniSeries, playing protagonist Jonathan Pine.

Being the nice guy and Unicef advocate that he is, Hiddleston highlighted the valuable work of aid workers helping children in Sudan, dedicating his win to them. If you’ve seen Hiddleston interviewed, you know he takes a measured approach to telling a story, always giving it context. So those calling him out as self serving are actually saying much more about their own motivations than his.

As for the so-called reactions of the stars like Christian Slater, frankly, someone next to him could have farted for all these people commenting on it know.

As Pine’s handler, Angela Burr, the divine Olivia Colman also won her first Golden Globe (Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie or MiniSeries), which joins a multitude of awards spanning the last eight years in both comedy and drama. Truly one of our most versatile actors and among the new wave of official National Treasures.

Golden Globes veteran, Hugh Laurie, picked up his third, having previously won two for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series (House). Laurie adds Best Supporting Actor in TV Film or MiniSeries for his deliciously evil Richard Roper.

Claire Foy was rewarded with Best Actress in a Drama TV Series – her first Golden Globe – for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown, which itself picked up the award for Best Drama TV Series.

Finally, a shock win and also another first for the actor, as Aaron Taylor-Johnson wins Best Supporting Actor in Film, for his portrayal of murdering rapist Ray Marcus in Nocturnal Animals. I can confirm he was scarily brilliant, enough to put me off ever driving across America at any time of the day. To be fair, it’s not the only reason: Watch Meryl Streep’s acceptance speech for her Cecil B. De Mille Award at the ceremony where she highlights another.
