A real life mother and son are competing on The Traitors and their relationship comes to light in episode three in a huge twist on the reality series fronted by Claudia Winkleman – but it's not who you think it is.
Only the viewers are in on the secret as the rest of the Traitors and Faithfuls remain blissfully unaware of the mother and son's off-screen connection. Retired teacher Diane, 63, dropped the major bombshell that Ross, 28, was her son in a piece to camera after Zack raised his suspicions that Paul was her son.
What, how and why?
In a jaw-dropping moment, Diane admitted that while Paul wasn't her son - she was playing the game with her son Ross. She said: "I can't believe it was suggested that Paul was my son when he's about three times taller than me, he's got red hair. Paul just couldn't be my son." There is a pause before she confessed: "But Ross is."
Then, Ross has the chance to explain their real life mother and son bond in a piece to camera. As they are both Faithfuls, the video director shared their game plan and how they will keep it a big secret. He told the camera: "So it turns out Diane is my mum. I know... I thought I was going to be slipping up all the time to be honest with you."
He later added: "We are a team at the end of the day. We're going to try and divide and conquer. We've got the competitive and the drive for one of us to win it. If one of us wins it, we both win it. We're going to keep the relationship secret. I'm just trying to stay focussed but it's tough."
The Traitors took viewers back to see Ross and Diane's exchange on the train where the video director said his mum put him up to the challenge. Ross admitted what he's going to find the hardest about keeping the secret. He said: "Do you know what is going to be the hardest thing? I'm going to have to call you Diane."
The mother couldn't resist poking fun at her son's remark as she urged him to refrain from calling her any other names as well as "mum". She quipped: "And none of the other names that you choose to call me sometimes, ok!"
What else happened on Traitors?
There was also a tense moment where Diane announced to some of the members of the group - including Ross - that Zack thought her son was playing the game. "So Zack hold on, I've been hearing rumours, you think my son is in this game," she directly addressed him.
But Zack has missed the trick. He responded: "I think you and Paul look a bit alike." Immediately after Diane burst into laughter and the group then discuss how she and Paul have red hair but hers is dyed.
