The Walking Dead episode titles: who’s going down a well, and who will end up in a cell?

More details on the much-hyped return of The Walking Dead have begun to emerge in recent days as we face the final couple of weeks before season 7 finally gets its ass on television. Not only has AMC’s zombie drama been renewed for an eighth season before the seventh even begins, but we also now know the names of the first three episodes of the brand new season. And they are very suitably, and brilliantly ominous.

The title of episode 1 harks back to a long-forgotten line from season 1, where Dr Edwin Jenner told Rick ‘The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be’. Grateful, that is… thankful to be alive. That day, it seems, has finally come. Whatever Negan is about to do to one of those eleven characters kneeling in front of him is not going to be pretty and its going to burn all that over-confidence that Rick and many of his group had, right down to the ground. And some of them may just wish that they were dead.

Episode 2 and 3 are titled The Well and The Cell respectively and there is even a synopsis for each episode revealing what they have in store. In The Well, ‘a number of familiar faces’ will find ‘a new, well-established community’ that ‘seems too good to be true’. In The Cell, ‘A new group of survivors seem to have it all in their impressive community; however, there is a price.’ If you want to know no more than this, then it’s time to run along now and barricade the doors against the zombie hordes (and also those who may spurt spoilers).

Still here? Well, the new community in episode 2 is likely to be The Kingdom. If you’ve seen the season 7 trailer with the guy with a pet tiger, that’s King Ezekiel and this is his realm. The familiar faces that arrive in the Kingdom will probably not be any of the eleven currently kneeling in front of Negan so that suggests Carol and Morgan. The question is, will The Kingdom really be too good to be true? Hopefully neither Carol or Morgan will end up at the bottom of a deep, dark well in order to find out.

In episode 3, we’ll most likely see Negan’s base, the Sanctuary. But despite the decent set-up, no one inside is safe from Negan. They may be free from walkers, but the price they pay is steep. Just wait till you see how he treats the women of the Sanctuary, and perhaps even worse, how Negan deals with those who sleep with any of ‘his’ women behind his back. Will Rick end up as his prisoner in a cell? Or could the cell be reserved for someone else? Someone who tries to take the fight right back to Negan’s doorstep…

Not long to wait until we find out!
