Cavill delivered his final performance as Geralt at the end of the show’s third series in summer 2023 and ever since, fans have been eager to see what the future holds for their favourite fantasy show.

Cut to early 2024 and Netflix has confirmed that they have big plans for the show, with Hemsworth set to lead the character to a sure-to-be dramatic conclusion in The Witcher season 5.

Here’s everything we know about it so far…

When will The Witcher season 5 be released?

The Witcher season 5 doesn’t have a release date yet. In fact, we don’t even know when The Witcher season 4 will arrive so it’s maybe a little too early to guess when its final adventure will land.

That said, we do know that production on The Witcher’s two remaining series is underway, with filming set to take place later this year. With that in mind, perhaps we’ll see The Witcher season 4 in late 2024 or early 2025, with The Witcher season 5 arriving late next year.

None of this is confirmed mind you, but hopefully, we’ll get our hands on some concrete details soon enough.

It’s a bit too early to expect a trailer for The Witcher season 5, especially considering we haven’t even seen Hemsworth in costume as Geralt yet.

Check back soon though because as soon as any footage arrives, you’ll find it here.

What is the plot for The Witcher season 5?

While exact plot details for The Witcher season 5 remain bound by a powerful curse, we do know they will adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's remaining Witcher books Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake.

According to an official announcement from Netflix, bringing these stories to vivid life on screen will give viewers "an epic and satisfying conclusion" to a series that started back in 2019. However, before this finale lands, we've got The Witcher season 4 to look forward to which will include new characters and address the arrival of a new-look Geralt.

"After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out season three, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri who are faced with traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons apart from each other," says the streamer's official season 4 synopsis.

"If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again."

Who is in the The Witcher season 5 cast?

Hemsworth will make his debut as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher season 4 and continue to play him right the way up to his last scene in The Witcher season 5.

He’ll be joined by a host of returning stars from previous series, including Chalotra’s Yennefer of Vengerberg, Allan’s Ciri and Joey Batey’s Jasiker the Bard. These faces will all be present in season 4 and hopefully, survive to appear in the show’s final outing.

Laurence Fishburne will star in The Witcher season 4. (Netflix)

The same goes for season 4’s newcomers, which include The Matrix star Lawrence Fishburne as “world-wise Barber-surgeon” Regis and District 9 star Sharlto Copley as rogueish bounty hunter Leo Bonhart.

Elsewhere, Watchmen actor Danny Woodburn will play fan-favourite dwarf Zoltan, with James Purefoy portraying spy and high-court advisor Skellen.

With any luck, these new characters - and perhaps a few more - will stick around to see Geralt off in season 5 but as it stands, no official casting announcements for that series have been made.
