  • Doug Liman's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" movie arrived in theaters back in 2005.

  • The action comedy follows a pair of married spies keeping their jobs a secret from their other half.

  • Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie played the titular couple, and their careers went from strength to strength.

Back in 2005, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie starred in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" as two married spies secretly working for competing agencies, who are assigned to kill each other.

Although the film itself got a middling reaction on release, it became an iconic noughties movie, because it sparked a relationship between Pitt and Jolie. At the time, Pitt was one half of one of Hollywood's most beloved couples with Jennifer Aniston.

After Pitt and the "Friends" star divorced in 2005, he and Jolie became an item, and so "Brangelina" was born. They married in 2014 and stayed together until 2016 when Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

Now, almost 20 years after the movie's release, Donald Glover and Maya Erskine star in Amazon's "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" TV series, which loosely follows the same idea of spies in a fake marriage.

Here's what the original "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" cast were doing when it was filmed, and what they're doing now.

Brad Pitt played John Smith.

Smith works as a hitman for an intelligence agency, but pretends he has a job in construction with his friend, Eddie.

John first meets his wife, Jane Smith (played by Jolie), when they're on separate missions in Bogota, Colombia, unaware that the other is also a spy.

Pitt started out with roles in critically acclaimed movies including "Interview with the Vampire," "Seven," and "Fight Club" in the 1990s.

Brad Pitt continues to have a successful career, winning an Oscar in 2020.

Pitt cemented his status as an icon with performances in films including "Snatch," "Troy," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," and Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" in the 2000s and the 2010s.

Pitt later reunited with Tarantino for "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in 2019 to play an aging stuntman. His performance earned him the Oscar for best supporting actor

Angelina Jolie played Jane Smith.

Jane Smith is secretly an operative for a rival intelligence agency, which causes an issue when she and John are both assigned to assassinate Benjamin Diaz (Adam Brody). And it isn't long before they're then tasked with killing each other.

She's shown to be more ruthless than her husband, and claims to have killed 312 people during her career.

Jolie had already won the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her work in "Girl, Interrupted" in 1998, but she was best known at the time for playing adventurer Lara Croft in the "Tomb Raider" franchise.

Angelina Jolie has since starred in several huge films, as well as directing a few of her own.

Jolie followed up "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" with other action movies, playing another talented assassin in 2008's violent comic book adaptation, "Wanted." And in 2010's "Salt," she played a Defense Intelligence Agency operative accused of being a Russian sleeper agent.

Jolie nabbed a few more blockbuster roles in the years since, including as the titular villain in Disney's "Maleficent," and the immortal superhero Thena in Marvel's "Eternals."

But she's also directed a handful of movies – most notably "Unbroken," starring Jack O'Connell as a prisoner of war.

Kerry Washington played Jasmine.

Jasmine works as an operative at Jane's agency, providing tactical intelligence for Jolie's character while she's out in the field, as well as emotional support when she learns the truth about John.

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Washington had several minor roles that helped push her career forward. She worked with Julia Stiles in the 2001 dance drama, "Save the Last Dance," as well as Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins in the action comedy "Bad Company."

After "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," Washington earned bigger roles, including the lead in the TV series "Scandal" from 2012 to 2018, which followed a crisis manager working with the President of the United States, and other high-profile clients.

She's been nominated for multiple Emmys as well as a Golden Globe for her work on the thriller from creator Shonda Rhimes.

She also starred as Kendra in the 2018 Broadway production of "American Son," before playing the same role in the Netflix adaptation a year later.

Washington worked with the streamer again in 2022, playing professor Davey in Netflix's "The School for Good and Evil" opposite Charlize Theron.

Vince Vaughn played Eddie.

While Jane relies on Jasmine, John works with his best friend, Eddie, at their agency. Eddie still lives with his mother, claiming she's the only woman he has ever trusted.

Vaughn plays the jokiest part in the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" cast, mirroring characters he played in 2000s movies including "Anchorman," "Dodgeball," and "The Wedding Crashers."

While Vaughn had dabbled with weightier roles before — such as the 1998 "Psycho" remake — he's best known for his comedic work.

Vince Vaughn has mixed up his career with serious performances.

While Vaughn has continued to act in comedies, he has also played serious roles. In 2015, he played gangster Frank Semyon in the second season of HBO's critically acclaimed crime anthology, "True Detective."

And a year later in 2016, he appeared in Mel Gibson's World War II biopic "Hacksaw Ridge'" as a harsh commanding officer, Sergeant Howell.

He followed this up by working with director S. Craig Zahler on two brutal crime dramas, "Brawl in Cell Block 99" in 2017, and "Dragged Across Concrete" in 2018. (It doesn't take a genius to figure out what happens in both of them.)

One of Vaughn's recent fun roles was the 2020 body-swap horror comedy, "Freaky," where he played a serial killer who tries to kill a girl, but then they get trapped in each other's body.

Adam Brody played Benjamin Diaz.

Adam Brody played Benjamin "The Tank" Diaz, who is the target John and Jane are sent after at the start of the film. However, the mission is a ruse by the DIA to get the pair to kill each other.

Brody's 2003 breakout role in "The O.C." as lovable nerd Seth Cohen set the stage for the rest of his career in a big way. Seth is fun and goofy, but has a serious side that occasionally comes out. And that definitely came across in "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."

Adam Brody’s career has also gotten a lot busier since “Mr & Mrs Smith.”

Brody continued to charm audiences with fun performances. In 2009, he played a seedy rocker who made a deal with the devil in "Jennifer's Body," before starring in 2013's "Some Girl(s)" as a man who tries to make up with all of his ex-girlfriends shortly before his wedding.

Brody continued to bag more eclectic roles including the doomed Deputy Hoss in 2011's slasher sequel "Scream 4," and an alcoholic socialite who takes part in his family's twisted tradition of hunting a new bride in 2019's "Ready or Not."

Most recently, Brody donned a cape and tights for 2019's "Shazam!" and its 2022 sequel, "Fury of the Gods," as the transformed, super version of teenager Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer).
