'There'll be complete gridlock' - Traffic fears over Tunstall McDonald's plan

Motorists are predicting traffic chaos - if McDonald's secures permission to open its ninth Stoke-on-Trent restaurant. The fast-food giant is lodging a planning application to open on the site of the former Pizza Hut, in Tunstall.

But the mini-roundabout connecting Scotia Road, Asda, Jasper Square Retail Park, and Alexandra Retail Park is already busy and the Scotia Road pedestrian lights are constantly in use. It has left StokeonTrentLive readers fearing the traffic situation if McDonald's does open.

Tori Anne said: "It is a very clever move by McDonald’s. The footfall on Alexandra Retail Park is booming with the likes of Costa, Starbucks and Home Bargains. The company will make a fortune if they acquire this site and as for congestion it will just add to the crazy amount of traffic there already is."

Phil Toft said: "Now they’ve gridlocked Sandyford, they now want to further gridlock the already gridlocked Asda and Matalan junction."

Michael McKeen added: "Even more traffic."
