Worst thief ever? Brazen man hides stolen Venetian blind in his HOOD

The bizarre theft occurred in Northampton on Sunday afternoon (Picture: Northampton Police)

We can’t quiet believe the sheer audacity of this man, who attempted to conceal a venetian blind in the HOOD of his jacket before making a speedy exit from a furniture store.

But equally, we can’t quite believe that he actually got away with it.

Police say that the man stole the blind from home furnishing store Dunelm Mill in Nene Valley Retail Park, Northampton, on Sunday afternoon.

In a series of photos, the man can be seen standing with the blind protruding from his hood - with a look on his face that’s a mixture of bafflement and sheer terror.

Police are now searching for this man (Picture: Northampton Police)

After leaving the store, police say that the man was eventually forced to abandon the item on a nearby canal path after staff gave chase.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: ‘Sometime between 2pm and 2.25pm a man entered the store and allegedly concealed a venetian blind down one trouser leg and up the back of his jacket.

‘He then left the store making no attempt to pay for the item.

‘He was followed by staff up a nearby canal path, where he dropped the blind before making off.’

Police added that the blind was damaged.

Anyone with information about the unusual theft is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111.
