This affordable mattress pad I got from Target makes it really hard to get out of bed in the morning

If you want a comfier night's sleep without splurging on a new mattress, try this under-$50 wonder

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a morning person, but I have a puppy, so I'm used to hopping out of bed at 6:30 a.m. and just starting my day after his first walk. Recently, however, it's been harder for me to get out of bed. And truthfully, I sometimes even get back under the covers post-walk. The reason? I added the Threshold Down Alternative Mattress Pad to my bed and OMG, it's never been more comfortable.

Available in classic white and six sizes: twin, twin XL, full, queen, king and California king. And at $45, you won't pay anything extra to have it delivered.

Historically, I'm not a person who splurges on my bedding. For instance, I would never spend $100 on sheets; T.J.Maxx is just fine for me, thanks. And I can basically sleep on any pillow. But late last year, I kept waking up in the middle of the night, so I decided to do a teeny tiny upgrade by adding the Threshold pad to my bed ensemble What. A. Difference.

If you can believe it, I had been sleeping sans mattress pad for years. But when I started having trouble sleeping, I Googled a lot for fixes. Rotating my mattress? Did that. Spritzing my pillow with lavender? Yep, tried that too. Nothing free was working, so I finally gave in and invested in a mattress pad. I knew I didn't want to spend more than $50, but I also knew that getting the absolute cheapest option probably wasn't the best idea. So after squishing a few at my local Target, I decided on the Threshold Down Alternative and I couldn't be happier with it.

Honestly, I thought my mattress was comfortable before, but this took it to a whole new level. I now feel like I'm sleeping on a fancy hotel bed! It's so soft and plush, like a hug every time I get under the covers. I have a pretty thick mattress, so it takes some elbow grease to get the pad on the bed, but once it's on it stays put. I've never had to adjust it, no matter how much I toss and turn.

Dreamland just got a little dreamier, thanks to this.

Like me, many shoppers at Target like the Threshold mattress pad, too. It has an average review score of 4.2 out of 5 stars and 68% of people who purchased it would recommend it.

"This down alternative mattress cover fits my queen sized bed perfectly," one of them wrote. "It adds a little cushion to my not-so-pillow-top bed. It washes really well, it's so soft and looks great on the bed. It doesn't flip up on the corners as some have a tendency to do. It's perfect!"

"This is a great, comfortable mattress pad," another person commented. "It's made from down alternative, so you get the comfort of down without the price. It fits the mattress perfectly and stays secure, thanks to the stretchy, fitted skirt. It is machine washable and waterproof. It adds just the right amount of softness to our mattress to make for a more comfortable night's sleep."

You'll note that the mattress pad doesn't have a perfect customer rating, and there are some shoppers who didn't love it. Among the chief complaints? It retains heat, and it's loud.

One customer explained, "[The mattress pad is] fine, but it's a little noisy and stiff. Almost like you can hear the waterproofing, which I do not like. I'll save it for the guest room."

Another less-than-impressed shopper wrote, "I’ve never in my life been so hot in bed as I am since putting this on our mattress. Absolutely awful and noisy."

As someone who runs cold and is used to sleeping through the sounds of the city (e.g., blaring sirens), neither of these things bothers me, so think about your own personal sleep preference before making your purchase.

Sure, it's comfy as all get-out, but how 'bout these deal-sweeteners: It's waterproof, hypoallergenic and made of recycled fiber fill.
