What did you miss?
Comedian Tom Allen had Alison Hammond in fits as he told her co-presenter Dermot O’Leary how to do his job on This Morning.
The star was in the ITV studio chatting about his stand-up career and his work on You're Fired!, the spin-off of The Apprentice. And at the end he had a light-hearted joke about the way host O’Leary was reading something out.
“How long have you been presenting for now?” Allen teased, as he ribbed O’Leary about his hosting style.
What, how, and why?
The hilarious moment took place during Friday’s show (9 February), as O’Leary and Hammond were wrapping up their interview with Allen. The comic was talking about something as O’Leary said he needed to read out a little information about what the star had coming up.
Allen listened as O’Leary consulted his yellow sheet of paper and told viewers the air date of The Apprentice: You’re Fired!, then joked: “Say it like you mean it Dermot, not just like… we are not in a meeting!”
The presenters laughed and O’Leary told Allen he was “going to sell” the next piece of information he had, before starting to read it out in a very matter of fact tone.
“Yes lovely, how long have you been presenting for now?” quipped Allen. And O’Leary replied: “Too long by the sounds of it!”
What else did Tom Allen say on This Morning?
During the interview, Allen also shared how he sometimes battled nerves before doing stand-up and talked about how he entertained members of the monarchy at the Royal Variety Performance, which he said was “thrilling”.
Talking about how he gets to speak to all sorts of people on his shows, the comedian said it was something he’d loved since an early age.
“I always liked talking to older women apparently, from the age of about three,” he said. “I just loved to go and talk to older ladies. In fact I would often get lost in the supermarket deliberately just so that I could get my name called out on the tannoy and also so I could talk to the people who worked behind the customer service desk in the supermarket.”
