Police have revealed some of the deadly weapons seized during raids ahead of this weekend’s Notting Hill Carnival.

This 15cm blade was just one of the deadly weapons discovered during the crackdowns, that have so far seen 55 people arrested.

Officers in Barnet discovered a firearm at one address, while two people were arrested on suspicion of possession and and intent to supply Class B drugs.

Police, who are aiming to keep the 50th anniversary of the carnival as safe as possible, also arrested seven people on suspicion of possessing Class A and Class B drugs, while two machetes were seized at an address in Camden.

Met Police Superintendent Robyn Williams said of the raids: “With Carnival being the largest event in London, it can present opportunities for those who are attending for reasons other than enjoying the festivities.

"It is only right that we take steps to deter and reduce crime at every opportunity both prior to and during what has become the centre piece in the capital’s event diary.

"Pre-event arrest operations are conducted in relation to a variety of major public events across London throughout the year.”

City of London Police CI Bill Duffy added: "This successful operation will go a long way to helping us achieve that aim of ensuring the carnival is a great event for all.

"We’re looking forward to the carnival and we’re committed to working closely with our colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and other partners to ensure a safe and enjoyable event.”

The carnival starts on Sunday August 28 and continues the next day with the parade and grand finale.
