Heartbroken relatives of missing student Thomas Jones said they have been crying “buckets of tears” as their desperate search continues.

Mr Jones’s family spoke out nearly a week after Mr Jones vanished in Worcester.

The 18-year-old went missing on a fresher’s week night out in the early hours of last Wednesday. He had only started at the University of Worcester three days before.

His uncle, Chris Rogers, told the BBC on Tuesday: “We had a house full yesterday and there were plenty of tears – buckets of tears.

“Tom is a gentle boy, one of the loveliest boys you could ever wish to meet.

“We covered every blade of grass in Worcester between us, and hopefully we have uncovered a lot of lead that the police can follow up on.

“It’s our job as a family to redouble our efforts and we are intent to do that.”

On Monday, two men were arrested on suspicion of Mr Jones's murder. They were released and are no longer being treated as suspects. Police said they had co-operated fully during questioning.
