Meghan Markle's father Thomas fears he will never see his grandchild amid rift with daughter and says he texts her every day but never receives a reply

The Duchess of Sussex’s father Thomas Markle today spoke of his fears of never seeing his future royal grandchild over the feud with his daughter.

Heartbroken Mr Markle, 74, told Good Morning Britain he is repeatedly texting Meghan, 37, who is expecting her first child in the spring, but has been “ghosted” by her.

In an exclusive interview with hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, said he is devastated by the ongoing estrangement from his daughter, wife of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, sixth in line to the throne but is “hopeful” it can still be resolved.

Mr Markle said he had also been frozen out by the Duchess of Sussex's mother Doria Ragland.

Speaking via Satellite link to California, he said of the rift, “I have been ghosted.

“I am very disappointed by it (the rift). I am not sure why it is happening. I am been reaching out. I have been trying to reach out for several weeks.

“Every day send a text, I just haven’t got anything back.”

“I just keep asking for her to respond back to me and I haven’t got any response back. I have sent letters.”

Mr Markle, who was not paid for the interview, confirmed he and Meghan have not spoken since her wedding in May, which he was invited to but did not attend.

Mr Markle, who has still never met Prince Harry, added that his message to his estranged daughter is: “I love you very much. You’re my daughter and I would really like to hear from you.

“Whatever differences of problems we have we should be able to work them out, we’re family.”

Mr Markle pulled out of attending his daughter’s wedding days before the big day for medical reasons.

It came shortly after allegations surfaced that he had staged photographs with the paparazzi, which he said he has apologised for.

He expressed his distress at the rift in a number of newspaper interviews since then, claiming he has tried to contact Meghan but has been “frozen out”.

Mr Markle also shared his hope that he would eventually be reunited with his daughter and said: "This can't continue forever".

Mr Markle, who said he imagines that the Queen herself would want to see the family rift resolved, added: “All families royal or otherwise are the same and they should all be together over the holidays.”

Speaking of being “ghosted” by his daughter, he said that it was not in her nature as far as he knew to be impolite.

He spoke of her strong-minded traits but said she was never “rude” and added: "She always been a very controlling person and that’s part of her nature but she’s never been rude.

"She’s always been in charge, that’s her nature. But she’s always been polite.

"She's always been very polite to everyone, never been rude to anyone. I don't know what's really happening right now."

With this in mind he said he is “hopeful” they will recover their relationship in time.

"Whatever differences or problems we have we should be able to work them out. We're family," Mr Markle said.
