The new chief executive of Thornaby FC says she has "massive ambitions" for the club where "everyone is welcome".

Alison McGee took over the helm at the Teesdale Park club earlier this month and says she is looking to the future. As previously reported, Alison's appointment follows backlash when then board members announced plans to cut its entire female section.

Following a public outcry, members who voted to axe the players resigned including former chief executive Trevor Wing. Middlesbrough-born Alison thanked the previous members of the board for their work and said she is now keen to "crack on" at the club.

She told Teesside Live everyone is welcome and stressed the girls' and women's teams are running as normal. The Teessider is the director of quality at Durata, infrastructure specialists, which has sponsored Thornaby FC Women for the last two seasons.

Female players have been reassured of her commitment to women's and girls' football and is now on the hunt for new players. She said: "I'm really excited and just want to crack on. We've signed quite a few new players from the women's and the men's teams. We're trying to get the message out that we are looking and taking on players, we want as many people to come to Thornaby as we can.

"We're looking forward to the future. We are one club welcoming everybody. We want people to come and watch the matches and are concentrating on all the men's, women's and girls' teams. We spoke to everyone when we first came in just to reassure everybody and now they're excited for the future. The women and girls just wanted to know the club would still be going and we are now all keen to make a start."

Mrs McGee urged prospective players to come down and meet the team, adding: "We want to show them what we can do and demonstrate the massive ambitions we have for the club."

Alison is supported on the board by husband, and Durata’s managing director, John McGee. Durata have been the front of shirt sponsor at Thornaby FC Women since the summer of 2022. Alison and John have developed a strong affinity with the club and, together with other companies, saved the club thousands of pounds following an arson attack at Teesdale Park in June 2023.

Alison stressed the club is looking for volunteers and thanked everyone who has helped Thornaby FC over the years. Anyone wanting to volunteer should email or get in touch via the club's Facebook pages.
