Three Nottinghamshire beauty business owners have expressed their gratitude after becoming finalists for the UK Hair and Beauty Awards. Lauren Turner, Amelia Cook, and Chyanelle McLean have all had their businesses commended ahead of this year's awards, which will take place in June.

Lauren, 35 and from Gedling, has worked in the beauty industry for over six years and launched Brow Lashes, currently based in Ilkeston, two and a half years ago. She has now been shortlisted in the Entrepreneur of the Year category.

Her business has received awards three times so far and Lauren is hoping to open an academy next. She said: "It's amazing to make finalist at the awards because I started from nothing, I had no clients and needed to promote my business all the time.

"I was a single mum for a long time and then coronavirus > Covid hit as well so I'm very please to have my work recognised at national level. It'd be great to win, but even if I don't, it's just nice to get recognised."

Lauren also has her own product line that she sells on her website, available to other lash techs, with items constantly out of stock. Another beauty business owner who started from nothing is Amelia Cook, 32 and from Hucknall.

She opened the Beauty Garden just over a year ago and has now been shortlisted for the Best New Salon and Best Team categories at the awards. She said: "Making a finalist means the world to me because I started my beauty business in my back garden.

"To become a finalist for Best Sew salon is an absolute dream. It shows just how much hard work I’ve put into my business." Another Hucknall business owner that has had her work recognised ahead of the UK Hair and Beauty Awards is Chyanelle McLean, 33.

Chyanelle has been shortlisted in the Best Beauty Therapist category after opening CLM Beauty Therapy in Hucknall at the beginning of 2021. She said: "I'm so thrilled to become a finalist.

"After 12 years in the beauty industry I took the plunge during Covid to go out on my own and start my own little business whilst becoming a mum of two gorgeous boys and juggling other commitments. I live and breathe for the beauty world and I am extremely passionate about it. I am over moon and very proud of what I have achieved so far."

The UK and Beauty Awards celebrate the talents and contributions of hairdressers, stylists, beauticians, and salons across the country, and is the largest hair and beauty movement.
