Three weeks of bridge repairs - and other roadworks to avoid

Work is underway at a well-used bridge which takes motorists over a stretch of the River Trent. The works at the Milton bridge are expected to take three weeks - with council officials telling drivers they'll face 'little disruption'.

Signs had gone up along Maunders Road and Millrise Road warning of the works as residents braced themselves for the sight of even more temporary traffic lights in the village. But Stoke-on-Trent City Council says apart from the temporary closure of a layby, the scheme - which is near the main bridge over the canal - shouldn't impact motorists too much.

A council spokesperson said: "We are carrying out repair works to the River Trent bridge, on Millrise Road. The works will predominantly be carried out from the underside of the bridge and so, apart from the temporary closure of the layby over the bridge, little traffic disruption is expected. The work will take around three weeks and will be carried out between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.”

The 'little traffic disruption' can't be said for a number of other roadworks currently going on around Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Here are some other schemes motorists may want to avoid:
