Thunderstorm warning for Aberdeen as heavy showers set to hit the north-east

The north-east is set to be hit by more heavy downpours as the Met Office issued a thunderstorm warning for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Valid from 11am tomorrow and set to be in place until 10pm, it is expected that slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in places.

There is a possibility of delays to public transport as a result, with road closures also possible.

The Met Office have issued some details of what to expect:

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services

  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
