Tiger Woods adds PGA star trio to his TGL team in response to Jon Rahm setback
Tiger Woods has responded to the setback of Jon Rahm's departure by adding three big names to his TGL team at Jupiter Links GC. The golfing legend, who co-founded the innovative league with Rory McIlroy, announced that PGA Tour stars Max Homa, Tom Kim and Kevin Kisner will join him for the inaugural campaign kicking off in 2025.
Five months after being named an owner of the Jupiter franchise, Woods has finally expanded his team. He'll be playing alongside PGA Tour veteran Kisner, six-time winner and Ryder Cup star Homa, and South Korean rising star Kim. However, it hasn't been smooth sailing for TGL. Last year, the tech-based league had to postpone their launch from 2024 to 2025 due to damage to their purpose-built SoFi Center stadium.
They're also still on the hunt for two new additions to complete their roster, following the departure of Jon Rahm who reneged on his commitment to compete on the TGL circuit and opted for a switch to Saudi's LIV Golf.
Woods has teamed up with Europe Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton and rising star Max Homa to form a star-studded team for the upcoming TGL golf league, reports the Mirror. Woods, a two-time major champion, is one of the most successful golfers of all time and is sure to be a major draw for the new league. Hatton, who joined Woods' newly-formed LIV team Legion XIII, is also a talented player and will bring a wealth of experience to the team.
Homa is a rising star in the game and has won five times in the past three years. The trio will be looking to make a big impact in the TGL, which is a new and innovative league that will see teams of three compete against each other in a virtual golf environment.
"I have already shared my excitement and optimism for TGL as a league and product," said Woods. "Now that we have finalised our roster with a team of world-class golfers, I am even more confident that this group will proudly represent the Jupiter area and connect with our fans for years to come."
Homa is also excited to be part of the team and is looking forward to playing alongside Woods. "Following Tiger's career is one of the main reasons that I became an avid golfer," he commented. "I remember watching him win the 1997 Masters, and now getting to play alongside him has been amazing."
The TGL is set to launch in 2024 and is sure to be a major success. With a star-studded line-up and a unique format, the league is sure to attract a large audience and become a popular destination for golf fans around the world.
"It's really exciting to call Tiger, Tom, and Kevin teammates. Thanks to TGL, I'll be able to play with some of the best golfers in the world and bring this unique and exciting format to golf while also finding ways to connect with one of the best golf markets in the country in South Florida."
