TIM Sills says he is happy with the squad he has assembled at Wimborne Town, labelling some of the summer spending in the Southern League as “astounding”.

Magpies have largely stuck with the same squad which got them promoted into the Premier Division, making just four additions so far in Will Fletcher, Drew Eccott-Young, Harvey Wright and Matty Burrows.

Wimborne get their pre-season schedule underway on Tuesday, July 9, away at Verwood Town, before welcoming Eastleigh to the newly-named Wyatt Homes Stadium on July 13.

Reflecting on the club’s summer squad building, Sills told Wimborne’s club media: “I don’t think there needed to be wholesale changes, we made that pretty clear.

“We had a very successful season and go into the league above with a squad full of players we know can play at that level.

“There were naturally always going to be two or three that might come in or two or three that might go out.

“We’ve worked really hard over the summer to retain as many players as we can from last year and then add more quality to it that we feel are going to help take us onto the next level.”

Asked if he plans to add any more, Sills said: “Not at the moment.

“I think our squad is about 18 or 19. I’m more than happy with that as a number.

“Always over pre-season things might happen, where people either come or go or there might be someone that we have training with us.

“There’s no huge desire to go and bring in more people.

“We’re more than happy with where the squad is at the moment.

“We’ll see how we shape up in pre-season.”

He added: “You look at the recruitment of clubs this summer in terms of our league and some of the money being thrown about is absolutely incredible. It’s astounding.

“It’s going to make it a really strong league.

“There are so many local games, so many big clubs coming here, so many big clubs to go to.

“It’s just an exciting season to look forward to.”
