New Hull City head coach Tim Walter says it's imperative the club bring in the right players this summer and not just make new signings for the sake of it.

City know they must have a busy summer to give Walter the tools to challenge for a place in the Championship play-offs next term having gone agonisingly close under former boss Liam Rosenior.

The Tigers' players will return to pre-season training a week on Monday and the squad will be significantly weaker than it was when the campaign ended at Plymouth on May 4, with the likes of Fabio Carvalho, Liam Delap, Tyler Morton and Noah Ohio all returning to their parent clubs, while Greg Docherty, Cyrus Christie, Adama Traore, Aaron Connolly and Billy Sharp all saw their contracts expire, while Ryan Allsop and Ozan Tufan have moved on this week.

Like every other manager in his position, Walter would like his business done quickly, but says the priority is bringing in players capable of being effective in his system and within the culture he intends to create at the MKM Stadium.

City know they must sign eight to 10 new faces this summer to plug the gaps left by those who have moved on since the end of the season, however, they must be good enough and not just signed for the sake of it.

"We don't need to have early transfers, we need the right transfers," then German told Hull Live. "It has to be the right player, not just early transfers. It has to fit. It has to fit the philosophy, and I'm sure we will have the right players at the beginning (of the season)."

Having been aggressive in the transfer market during his stint as manager of Hamburg and wasn't afraid to take players he knew and trusted with him, so with that in mind, Walter hasn't ruled out returning to his former club to do business but says the club are scouring the whole market for new recruits.

"All over the world there are good players so we have to keep our eyes open and that's the only thing we can do," he said when asked if he could return to Volksparkstadion to pluck a player or two. "We will find the right players, it doesn't matter where they come from."
