Voters across the county are heading to the polls in the UK's first general election in almost five years. A fevered night begins once polls close at 10pm tonight, with ballot counters rapidly hand-counting votes and political buffs watching the map fill with colour.

All but one of Cheshire's parliamentary constituencies have changed in some way since the last election (Macclesfield's boundaries remain unchanged). The new constituencies of Cheshire Mid (roughly Northwich, Winsford and Middlewich) and Runcorn and Helsby represent dramatic changes to the electoral map.

This election will also see the city of Chester split and represented by two MPs for the first time since 1885. North of the Dee is the new constituency of Chester North and Neston, with those south of the river now part of Chester South and Eddisbury, a constituency that extends as far as Weaverham, Malpas, Tarporley and Audlem.
