Timelapse Shows Aspen 'Torchlight' Ski Parade Snake Down Mountainside

The Colorado city of Aspen celebrated its 73rd annual Winterskol festivities with an illuminated nighttime parade that descended from a mountain above town like a red snake.

According to the city’s official website, Aspen’s yearly “toast to winter” traces its origins to January 1951, when residents decided to honor Aspen’s “distinctive mountain way of life” by organizing a weekend of varied events.

This footage, filmed by Barry Stevenson on Saturday evening, January 13., shows the “torchlight parade,” where skiers descended the Aspen mountain with flares and glow sticks into the historic downtown on Saturday, forming a red shape resembling a snake. Credit: Barry Stevenson via Storyful
