Timelapse Shows Manhattan Sports Field Morph Into Field Hospital

An enclosed sports field in northern Manhattan used by New York’s Columbia University has been converted into a temporary field hospital for coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in the American city hit hardest by the virus.

This timelapse video taken inside what is now called the Ryan Larkin Field Hospital was released by NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital on April 14 when it announced the opening of the facility.

According to NewYork-Presbyterian, the hospital will be staffed largely by former US military staff, including “nearly 200 medical and support veterans from all parts of the country.”

As of the afternoon of April 14, New York City had over 107,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases, and recorded upwards of 10,000 deaths tied to the virus. Credit: NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital via Storyful
