New tipi attraction opens in grounds of Northumberland hotel

A cosy tipi with rustic bar, live music, pizza, open fires and private events is opening at a Northumberland hotel - and visitors as well as guests can enjoy the new destination.

The Tipi at The Tempus has opened on the stunning Charlton Hall Estate, within the gardens of its newest venue, The Tempus hotel. The Tipi, which is family and dog friendly, forms part of expansion at the Doxford Group. It is also available to hire for events, christenings, and private parties.

For dining, guests can expect wood-fired pizzas and garlic flatbreads, as well as food by guest vendors who will be invited for special food nights, all of which are served alongside a drinks menu. Every Friday and Saturday from 4pm until 9pm, the pizza oven will be launched, and bartenders will pour cocktails, wines, beers and drinks to the background of live music, which will be played every weekend.

Richard Shell, owner of The Doxford Group, said the new venue aims to create the perfect soundtrack for long summer evenings, and weekly musicians will be announced on The Tempus’ social media.

Mr Shell said: “We’re thrilled to open The Tipi at The Tempus, just in time for the May bank holiday. Everyone is welcome to enjoy our laid back, alfresco dining and drinking in the grounds of The Tempus, where we’ll also be hosting live music. The tipi creates a new dimension to what we already offer our guests, tourists, and locals, and we’re super excited to welcome everyone to come and enjoy the estate.”

The opening this weekend has been timed to mark the hotel’s first anniversary. The boutique venue, which has 15 bedrooms, sits within the ground of Doxford Group’s 150-acre country estate near Alnwick and is a sister venue to quirky Charlton Hall.

The Tempus marks The Doxford Group’s third venture, following the launch of its wedding and event venues Doxford Barns in 2015 and Charlton Hall in 2017.
