One Tipping Point contestant was left red-faced after getting his geography seriously mixed up.

Ben Shephard welcomed three fresh contestants to Tipping Point on Wednesday each with hopes of taking home a life-changing £20,000 jackpot.

Richard, a chef from Nottingham, Pauline, a midwife from Whitley Bay, and Sarj, a flight attendant from Milton Keynes were each given a warm welcome to the show, before they took each other on.

And after a shaky start, Richard went into the second part of round one in last place - with just £200 to Sarj's £300 and Pauline's whopping £1,900. And the pressure seemingly got to him in his five-second counter-builder, mistaking Spain for a popular Argentine city.

Amongst the quick-fire questions was: "Which Argentinian city hosts the annual world Tango championship called the Mundial de Tango?" to which the correct answer was Buenos Aires. However, Richard was left a little panicked, answering 'Spain'.

And the show's loyal viewers on social media weren't quick to let the player forget about the error. One wrote: "Spain an Argentine city?" with a GIF of a child with his head in his hands, while a second added: "Bloke on Tipping Point has just said that Spain’s in Argentina."

A third went on: "Which Argentinian city?…Spain." while a fourth sarcastically penned: "Spain is the best answer we’ll hear today."

Despite his hiccup, Richard would go on to notch his total up to £450 in the first round, sending Sarj home empty-handed. He would unfortunately be knocked out in the very next round however, unable to catch Pauline's £2,050 total going into the finale.
