Rangers star Todd Cantwell believes six of the best can help the Ibrox side salvage their Treble dreams.

Damaging slip ups against Ross County and Dundee have left the Light Blues’ Premiership dreams hanging by a thread with five games to go. But Cantwell is refusing to give up and believes there is still time for Philippe Clement’s Viaplay Cup winners to turn things around. After a week of fierce criticism, the playmaker put on a show of defiance at Hampden last Sunday as he inspired the Ibrox outfit to a 2-0 win over Hearts which means Rangers also have next month’s Scottish Cup Final to look forward to.

The May 25 clash will pit Clement’s squad against table-toppers Celtic as the top two face off in the end-of-season showpiece for the first time in 22 years. And Cantwell reckons Rangers can rescue this season's aims if they treat the five dates before that Hampden shoot out with the same determined approach.

The Englishman - who will be heading to Paisley to face St Mirren on Sunday - said: "We’re looking forward to the cup final. But every game needs to be seen as a final now. We’ve got to win every game. We’ve definitely got the capabilities to do so. I’ll give my absolute best until the end of the season.”

Gers flew out the traps against the Jambos last Sunday, with Cantwell rolling in Cyriel Dessers for the opener after just five minutes. The former Norwich attacker was the driving force again late on as his surging run through the middle cut the Jambos apart before Dessers netted for a second time.

Now Cantwell hopes that partnership can bear further fruit in the final few weeks of the season. “We were delighted to get the victory,” said Cantwell. “That’s what we went there to do on Sunday. It was good to get the result.

“It was a must-win game against Hearts. We came out and we won it. That’s what was in the plan. The mission was a success. But I won’t be getting carried away. I’m in the team to create and that’s what I did against Hearts. An early goal always helps any team in world football. We got that against Hearts and I think it steadied us.

“I think we actually played some really good football in the first half. We were patient and made them run for it. A fast start helps everyone. That gave us confidence to play out from the back at our tempo.

“Me and Cyriel have a good understanding. From one of his first training sessions, I think we realised we would be on the same page. Hopefully we can get a bit of a run together now until the end of the season and get some goals and assists.”
