The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon Extends NBC Contract — Find Out For How Long

Jimmy Fallon has extended his deal with NBCUniversal, which will now see him hosting The Tonight Show through 2028, the company announced Thursday.

“For nearly 30 years, Jimmy Fallon has brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock,” NBCUniversal Media Group chairman Mark Lazarus said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to witness Jimmy at the helm of the The Tonight Show and we’re thrilled to see what innovations he and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network.”

Added Fallon: “For nearly 30 years, I’ve brought laughter into the homes of millions and charmed audiences from the stages of 30 Rock. It’s been a privilege to be at the helm of the The Tonight Show and I’m thrilled to see what innovations me and the incredible staff will deliver in the years to come at the network. No, I’m not changing my quote. Tell Mark to change his.”

Fallon’s contract renewal comes four weeks after fellow NBC funnyman Seth Meyers inked his own extension — also through 2028. This ensures that NBC’s weeknight line-up of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night With Seth Meyers will remain intact for the foreseeable future. (Of note: The latter is dropping its house band this fall.)

Fallon, who recently celebrated his 10th anniversary as host of The Tonight Show, got his start on NBC in 1998 when he was cast on Saturday Night Live. He remained a cast member through 2005, then returned to the network in 2009 to replace Conan O’Brien as host of Late Night. He inherited The Tonight Show from Jay Leno in 2014, at which point Meyers left SNL to succeed Fallon at 12:37 am.

In addition to The Tonight Show, Fallon is a fixture of NBC’s primetime lineup, where he serves as host of That’s My Jam (previously renewed for Season 3), and as an executive producer and panelist on the game show Password. Later this summer, he’ll co-host NBC’s closing ceremony coverage at the Paris Olympics.

Among other late-night hosts: Jimmy Kimmel’s current ABC deal takes him through 2025; CBS’ Stephen Colbert and HBO’s Bill Maher and John Oliver are signed through 2026; and CBS’ After Midnight with host Taylor Tomlinson was recently renewed for the 2024-25 TV season.
