Here are your Cardiff City headlines for Tuesday, April 16.

Ashford stars again in week to remember

Cian Ashford has just had the week of his life.

Not only did he make his Championship debut for Cardiff City, he made his second appearance, too, on the weekend at Millwall. With the club not content with him having roughly 40 minutes of action, they tasked him with turning out for the under-21s on Tuesday night to ensure he stayed match fit.

And, dropping down to that level, the 19-year-old showed his class. He scored twice, once from open play and the other from the penalty spot, as Cardiff fought from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Birmingham City at St Andrew's, the scene of his Championship debut last week.

There are calls for him to start for the first team at the weekend, but there are a number of pros and cons to that. On the final day of the season against relegated Rotherham United? Perhaps.

Player of the year shortlist revealed

Cardiff City's six-man shortlist for player of the year has been announced.

The Bluebirds are asking supporters to vote for who they think has been the best player this season and you can do that by clicking here.

First up is reigning player of the year Perry Ng, who has the highest score on WhoScored with a rating of 7.10. He has been as consistent as ever this term and has scored six goals in the process, no one has scored more. Not bad for a right back.

Next is summer signing Dimitrios Goutas. He has added defensive solidity to the back line and has been an ever present, playing every singly game this season and has also chipped in with four crucial goals.

Rubin Colwill is also among the candidates. This has arguably been Colwill's best season to date, although he doesn't quite have the numbers to show for it. Having been given a number of things to improve on at the beginning of the campaign, he has flourished under Bulut in the last few months. He will look to turn those performances into goals and assists next term, no doubt.

West Brom loanee Karlan Grant is another who has enjoyed a solid campaign in south Wales. A favourite of Bulut's, Grant has played practically every minute he has been available this term. He has added quality and industry down City's left and has chipped in with six goals of his own.

Captain Joe Ralls is another name on the list. Another consistent year for the skipper in midfield and very rarely gives you less than a 7/10. Manolis Siopis, his midfield partner, is also among the candidates. After a slow start, the Greek found his feet and has managed to adapt to life in the Championship, producing big tackles and churning out kilometres like they're going out of fashion.

Bulut targeted by Besiktas

Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut is reportedly on a seven-man shortlist to take the Besiktas job this summer.

Bulut's contract is up at the end of the season, meaning he has only three games left as Bluebirds manager, at the time of writing. The decision with regards to his future lies solely in the hands of Vincent Tan. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

And other clubs now appear to be monitoring the manager's situation. Indeed, Turkish outlet Fanatik claim that Bulut is among a handful of people being considered to take over from former Portugal boss Fernando Santos, who was axed by Besiktas at the weekend. Santos' assistant, Serdar Topraktepe, has taken over until the end of the season.

Besiktas is one of Turkey's three biggest and most successful clubs, alongside Fenerbahce, whom Bulut has previously managed, and Galatasaray.

Other notable names reportedly on Besiktas' list are Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, ex-Bayern Munich and Germany boss Hansi Flick, former Monaco and Wolfsburg manager Niko Kovac, AC Milan great Gennaro Gattuso, Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic and Antalyaspor boss Sergen Yalçın.
