Page: We want Colwill to blossom like Wilson

Wales boss Rob Page wants Cardiff's Rubin Colwill to blossom into an integral part of the national team setup just like Harry Wilson has done.

Colwill had a rocky start to the season under Erol Bulut, who refused to start him until he produced more work off the ball and on the defensive side of his game. But after he was entrusted with a starting berth, the 22-year-old flourished and enjoyed a good season.

It was a season which culminated in him being called back up from the Wales under-21s squad to the first team. Colwill had impressed hugely for Matty Jones's under-21s and his form for his club side also earned him the nod from Page.

Harry Wilson also did similar a few years back and the former Cardiff loanee has really stepped up in the absence of the retired Gareth Bale. Page hopes Colwill can now enjoy a similar journey in the coming years.

“We did the same when Ryan Giggs was manager and I was with the under-21s,” Page told the BBC. “Ryan asked for Harry Wilson to step down and he did. He was a model professional, how he trained, all the young ones looked up to him and it was really beneficial for him.

“He only lasted one camp [with the under-21s] and he was back up with the first team. We have done the same with Rubin, albeit he has had a couple more camps than Harry had. It will help him. He is still part of the process and at the right time we will bring him back up.”

Cardiff staff still planning for pre-season

Negotiations continue between Erol Bulut and Cardiff City over the manager's situation.

As of this afternoon, no announcement was imminent, however Bulut and his coaching staff are still planning in the hope that talks progress quickly and positively, we are told.

A number of issues have to be ironed out in the coming days and weeks, not least pre-season trips and fixtures as well as lining up transfer targets.

While things appear to have stagnated a little over the last week or so, Bulut's staff are working behind the scenes for the eventuality that they are given the green light to proceed.

Star announces wonderful news

Cardiff goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has announced that he and his partner Sophie are expecting their first baby.

The Bluebirds shot-stopper enjoyed a terrific start to the season, becoming Cardiff's No.1 after Ryan Allsop's departure to Hull City, before injury struck him down after the January transfer window. Sign up to our Cardiff City newsletter here.

Ethan Horvath then assumed the position while Alnwick was frustratingly injured for the remainder of the campaign. However, the summer has started in much happier fashion for Alnwick, who announced on social media that he is expecting a child in November this year.

His partner, Sophie Hollows, posted: "OUR NEXT CHAPTER. Our story is just about to begin... 28th November 2024."
