Turnbull: Next season will be big for me

Cardiff's David Turnbull says not having scored for the Bluebirds yet is "doing my head in".

The midfielder has opened up on his decision to leave Celtic in January, admitting it was "tough" but that his heart was set on a "fresh challenge" away from Parkhead.

"Those years at Celtic were the best of my life," he said. "But my head was set on getting away for a fresh challenge.

“I wanted more game-time than I was getting. That was probably the deciding factor. I was in and out last season. I’m not sure if that was down to my contact situation or not. But I’m not restarting my career at Cardiff. I’m kick-starting it to get back to the levels I know I can get to.”

Turnbull has taken his time to bed in in south Wales but he was the pick of the bunch against Middlesbrough on Saturday and he hopes to kick on next season. He is, though, extremely keen to get on the scoresheet before the curtain comes down on the 2023/24 campaign.

“I still haven’t scored yet and it’s doing my head in," he admitted.

“I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself. I know that when the first one comes I’ll start banging them in again. Cardiff are a huge club. The expectations are there. And knowing where the club want to go in the next few seasons is exciting for me.

“I’ve had a good start, not an amazing one. I’ve still got a lot more to give and next season will be big for me. We have to push for the play-offs or higher.”

Adams carried off the pitch

There were jubilant scenes at Derby County on Saturday, who secured promotion back to the Championship.

A 2-0 win over Carlisle at Pride Park means Paul Warne's side will be playing tier-two football next term. Instrumental to their elevation has been the signing of Bluebirds midfielder Ebou Adams, who has already secured cult-hero status in the east Midlands, such have been his performances from the Rams.

Another man-of-the-match display saw him carried off the field by ecstatic Derby fans, who flooded the pitch at the full-time whistle.

Our colleagues at DerbyshireLive described the scenes Adams found himself at the centre of: "It took just a matter of seconds for the pitch to a sea of black and white but out in the middle you could see Ebou Adams who had been lofted onto some shoulders as he basked in the glory of it all.

"He has been an amazing addition to the squad, a transformative signing that has helped the club achieve its objective. Cries of sign him up reverberated around Pride Park and who knows what the future holds.

"It is a transfer the fans would love to happen, but if it doesn't then Adams will go down in Derby history as a loan signing the fans will never forget."

"Words can't describe," Adams told BBC Radio Derby. "I think the fans have said it all. I've really enjoyed my time and I've loved it here. I've loved it. Honestly, I've enjoyed every single minute. Thank you to the fans, thank you to the club. I owe them so much. I'm happy to give them promotion, because that's the minimum they deserve. Hopefully next year they can go and do what they deserve to do.

"The gaffer, to be fair, when he signed me he said 'listen, our job is to get promoted'. I told him I'd do my best. To get this far and have so much of an impact is an understatement. I can only thank the players. They've given me so much of a platform to enjoy myself, and that's what I've been doing. We've been strong, steady and just kept it going. We've been resilient."

On his future, he added: "I can't say it - it's so difficult! It's never goodbye from me. First of all I'm going to enjoy my summer! I don't know where I'm going to be. I'll enjoy my summer first and foremost and then we'll see where we're at, but I've enjoyed every single minute of it and thank you so much for having me here."
