Ng in team of the season

Cardiff right-back Perry Ng has been named in the official Championship team of the season.

The defender claimed his second consecutive player of the year award after another outstanding campaign for the Bluebirds. And his efforts have been recognised by the league, too.

The official SkyBet Championship team of the season is based on an average player score across the season for players based on stats gurus WhoScored.

Ng is named at right-back in a team littered with stars from Leicester City, Leeds United, Southampton and others. The defender, who is the subject of transfer interest from top-flight sides around Europe, scored an average rating of 7.10/10.

The 28-year-old scored six goals and provided a further four assists from full-back this season.

Championship Team of the season: Ruddy (Birmingham City); Ng (Cardiff), Hoedt (Watford), Greaves (Hull City), Davis (Ipswich Town); Fatawu (Leicester City), Sara (Norwich City), Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester City), Summerville (Leeds United); Georginio (Leeds United), A.Armstrong (Southampton).

Cabango discusses Cardiff trials

Swansea star Ben Cabango has discussed his upbringing in Cardiff and his grounding at his first club, Maindy Corries, as well as a failed trial with the Bluebirds in his youth.

Cabango, still just 23, has grown to become a key player for the Swans and has earned seven caps for Wales, too. He grew up in Cardiff and went to Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr. His younger brother, Theo, of course, is a rising star in rugby and is thriving for Cardiff Rugby.

But Ben's success has come further west and it appears Cardiff's loss has very much been Swansea's gain. Cabango's youth career took in a spell at Newport County before impressing in a game against Swansea, which saw them capture him as a 16-year-old and he never looked back.

But it might have been different, had Cardiff recognised the talent they had on their doorstep. Speaking to the Swans website, when Cabango was asked if he had trials at Cardiff, he said: "Yeah! I was really young. I did have a trial and didn't get in, I just got into the development.

"That's when I just went back to Maindy (Corries) and just ended up going to Newport. But I'm better for it, I guess."

Clearly, coming from Cardiff, his friendship group were largely Bluebirds fans growing up. But seeing their friend thrive at Swansea have seen some of them swap allegiances.

But Cabango, who scored a 99th-minute winner for Swansea in the 3-2 triumph over Cardiff as well as a goal in the 4-0 thumping last season, said some of his old pals still haven't forgiven him.

"It's half and half with my friendship group. Since I've played, a lot of them have changed to Swansea. But there are still a few die-hard Cardiff fans in there!" he added,

"They can't forgive me! Whenever I come back they always give me stick!"

U15s win national cup

Cardiff City under-15s were crowned champions of the EFL Floodlit Cup last night after a superb comeback win over Burton Albion.

Jack Sykes and Tiger Tobin produced second-half goals to earn a 2-1 win in front of Bluebirds supporters at Cardiff City Stadium. There were jubilant scenes at full-time, with captain Thomas Prickett lifting the trophy aloft with fans and team-mates celebrating behind them.

After the match, Prickett said: “I think the character we showed from 1-0 down, we knew we were the better team so we had to just get at them. The character we showed was brilliant. The boys were perfect. We can’t ask for much more, got the win and got what we deserved."

Coach Réda Johnson added: “Maybe I’m not selfish enough, but I’m so happy, so buzzing for the boys. They did everything that we asked them to do as the staff. It’s all for them. It’s not about the staff, it’s about them tonight. I was buzzing for them. To have some young players like Gruff, Joel, Paul, Keano, Alex, you can’t dream of better. As an Academy tonight, we won."

An emotional Hywel Bartlett, the lead under-15s and under-16s coach, said: "I'm emotional. Really so pleased, for the players, for everyone. The fans have turned up to support, the staff have turned up to support. The players, everyone contributing, the staff, people behind the scenes, just so pleased for everybody. To make this an occasion, we were fortunate enough to be on the right end of the result. I’m just so pleased."

Meanwhile, the under-21s concluded their season with a narrow defeat at home to Hull City in a seven-goal thriller this afternoon.

Goals from Kyle Kenniford, Fin Johnson and Ronan Kpakio weren't enough to secure the spoils as the visitors hammered in four at Cardiff City Stadium. The result means Darren Purse's side finished the Professional Development League 2 South season in eighth place.
