Davies can't stop scoring

Isaak Davies scored yet again for KV Kortrijk last weekend - taking his tally to 11 for the season.

The on-loan Cardiff attacker has really grasped his chance while in Belgium and will return to south Wales in the summer a more rounded player, no question. He may even be in with a shout for Rob Page's next Wales camp.

Unfortunately for Davies and Kortrijk, they were beaten 4-2 at home by RWDM; the visitors raced into a three-goal lead inside 24 minutes and despite pulling two back - Davies scoring the second - the Juliper League strugglers ended up conceding again deep into stoppage time.

Next Sunday they travel to Molenbeek in the fourth round of the relegation play-off with Kortrijk now in must-win territory.

Young duo over the moon

Raheem Conte and Luey Giles have spoken of their pride and their emotion following their Championship bows for the club against Southampton.

The two full-backs were introduced from the bench on Saturday and performed admirably against stellar opposition. Indeed Conte played a part in the Bluebirds' equaliser, getting the team right back in the contest they would eventually go on to win in dramatic fashion.

“It was a good moment for me," Conte said. “It’s a really proud day for me and my family. To come on and make a difference was a pleasure. I had a bit of a rumble in my belly when the gaffer called me over and I was putting my shirt on, but once I got on the pitch, I just played to my strengths and had belief in myself.

“I’m proud of my performance. Throughout my career, I’ve played in many different positions, so it was just about playing to those attributes. The stadium was bouncing. The crowd were amazing. When you’re playing, you block out the noise and focus on the game, but after the final whistle, you soak it in.”

On the opposite flank, Giles also made his mark on the game and said for a homegrown Cardiff fan it doesn't get much better. Coming on for makeshift left-back Ollie Tanner, he did his job well.

“It feels absolutely amazing," he said. “For a Cardiff boy, it’s a dream come true for me and my family. When I saw Ollie go down, you never like to see that, but I knew there was a chance for me to come on. My heart was going a bit, but as soon as I got on the pitch, it was OK. It made it easier having other academy lads playing, especially having Cian (Ashford) on my side, because I know how he plays.

"I’m really proud. I feel like I did well when I came on, did my job defensively and contributed going forward, so I’m pleased with that. It was a great experience for me. Coming up against Southampton, who are fighting for promotion, to get the three points is massive for us.

“It just topped it off. Celebrating in front of the fans really meant a lot to me. The atmosphere was great. I’m really thankful to the fans for coming out and supporting us. I feel like they really helped us to get the win. This year has been a really positive season for the academy. There’s been a great pathway for us, so it’s been a brilliant year.”

Diedhiou 'buzzing'

Cardiff striker Famara Diedhiou says he is "absolutely buzzing" following his goal against Southampton at the weekend - and says fellow scorer Cian Ashford is the future of the club.

Diedhiou's close-range strike got the Bluebirds back on level terms at Cardiff City Stadium after the Saints had taken the lead through Joe Aribo, before teenager Ashford produced a moment he'll remember forever, grabbing the winner in the 96th minute.

Needless to say, Diedhiou was bouncing with the goal and the result.

“I’m absolutely buzzing after that,” he said. “It was an unbelievable three points. Everyone put in some really good work and I’m just happy to get the win.

"Picking up three points against Southampton is never easy. It wasn’t an easy first half for us. They scored early on, but also missed some chances, but I think we have a strong mentality to come back and win the game at the end.

“The manager tells us to play with freedom. Sometimes mistakes happen, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Today, we tried to do our best, and it worked, just like it did in the Ipswich game.

"Previously we scored in the 90+10th minute, today it was 90+6. It shows that we have a good mentality. I’ve been waiting a long time for that moment! We kept going throughout the second half and tried to push everyone on.

"The gaffer too was telling us to push, and he talked with us before and told us to take our chances and play easily. We kept pushing, and we got a really good three points at the end.”

On team-mate Ashford, he added: “I’m just really happy for him. The celebration in front of the fans showed how much it meant for him to score. The manager tries to give chances to everyone, and that includes the young lads as well. Ash has been playing well, and honestly, he is such a good and talented player.

"He shows it in training just how good he is. The gaffer gave him a chance today and he took it. I think he is the future of the club, and it’s a really good moment for him.”
