Tony Docherty refutes Rangers claim from Philippe Clement and insists Dundee could have nicked win

Tony Docherty has strongly disagreed with Philippe Clement's claim that Rangers deserved to win last night's clash with Dundee.

Chances were few and far between for both sides at Dens Park as the Light Blues suffered another hammer blow to their title ambitions. The visitors did have large swathes of possession but seemed to run out of ideas in the final third and didn't unduly trouble Jon McCracken in the home goal.

Clement was putting a brave face on it at full-time and defended his players, insisting they showed a reaction from the weekend's defeat to Ross County and were just lacking a bit of luck in front of goal. He also said Gers were the only team that looked like winning it or that deserved to win it.

But his opposing manager has refuted that and says he felt comfortable all night that his backline wasn't being threatened.

On top of that, he felt his men could have nicked it.

Docherty said: "Well, you watched the game. I would strongly disagree with that. What I would say is, it was important the last couple of games and me as manager it was incumbent on me that I make sure my players are focused for every game.

"And we've kept that focus over the last two games. And we've got results that have been reward for that focus we've shown.

"And I thought tonight, yeah Rangers had a lot of possession but I never thought they troubled us. I thought we had a couple of opportunities we should score. Scott Tiffoney should score from the rebound from the free-kick and Bako (Amadou Bakayoko) is offside.

"But I thought our play in possession, and out of possession, merited us keeping a clean sheet against a very strong and talented Rangers team who have got huge motivation."
