Top Gun Star 'Armed And Ready' After Break-In

Top Gun actress Kelly McGillis says she has obtained a gun permit after she was attacked by a home intruder.

McGillis, 58, wrote on Facebook that she returned to her Hendersonville, North Carolina, house on 17 June to find a light on and her front door unlocked.

She said: "A stranger, a woman, came barreling down the hallway and began yelling at me.

"We have quite a few guns and lots of ammo and that's when I started to panic.

"I began screaming as loud as I could hoping someone somewhere might hear me."

McGillis said the intruder snatched her mobile phone as she ran outside to call 911.

The actress - who played a flight instructor and Tom Cruise's love interest in the 1986 film Top Gun - wrote that she was left scratched and bruised, but is otherwise fine.

Laurence Dorn, 38, was arrested and charged with stalking, assault and battery and other counts.

McGillis says she has obtained a concealed-carry gun permit to protect herself.

"I am armed and ready," she said.

She also uploaded a picture of herself to Facebook with tubes coming out of her nose, commenting: "Relaxing at home with some oxygen.

"My anxiety is/was so high it was best for me to get hooked up."
