Dancing on Ice fans have been calling for Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean to resume their roles as coaches.

With another series already commissioned for next year, Digital Spy asked the legendary Jason Gardiner if he thinks it's a possibility.

During an exclusive chat, he told us: "They can't do that and judge at the same time, so no, it's not going to happen."

However, Jason went on to admit that nothing is set in stone regarding next year – including his own place on the judging panel.

Commenting on whether he will return, the star added: "There is no 'definitely' – so who knows? ITV will go away and reassess everything, re-evaluate, God knows – all that market research and focus groups... Who knows? I don't even know.

"But put it this way, I'm about to open a new musical called Ruthless playing the lead role. Theatre is my first love so who knows what will happen off the back of it? Doing this [West End show] could open up a whole avenue of delights for me.

"All I want to commit to right now is making sure that Dancing on Ice is a fantastic and successful return this series."

Ruthless is set to open at the London Arts Theatre on March 16 for a limited run until June 23.

Jason will be starring opposite Calendar Girls' Harriet Thorpe and Coronation Street's Tracie Bennett, and is portraying a feminist drag queen, who he described as an agent with a "big secret that you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of".

In case you're wondering, yes, the other Dancing on Ice judges are all going along to support Jason as he takes to the stage – in fact, they've already got their tickets!

But how does he feel now that the tables have been turned, with him in the spotlight getting critiqued on his talents?

"I don't mind being judged – that's what this industry is all about," he continued.

"Theatre is my first passion and love. To go back and be on the boards again, where I feel most at home, is a real gift. The other judges are all dying to come and they're so excited for me."

Dancing on Ice is on ITV, Sundays at 6pm.
