Tory Lanez’s wife Raina Chassagne filed for divorce from the singer in June 2024 after less than a year of marriage

Tory Lanez and his wife, Raina Chassagne, are going their separate ways.

The disgraced “The Color Violet” singer and Chassagne first got married on June 25, 2023. However, less than a year later, Chassagne filed for divorce, listing their date of separation as June 1, 2024.

Lanez (whose real name is Daystar Shemuel Shua Peterson) is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in a 2020 incident.

The singer and Chassagne share one child, Kai’lon, together, who occasionally accompanied Lanez in court as the trial regarding the shooting was ongoing.

So who is Tory Lanez’s estranged wife? Here’s everything to know about Raina Chassagne and her relationship with the singer.

She is from Florida

Chassagne was raised in Miami and currently lives in Florida. She graduated from high school in December 2013 and started at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in January 2013, per her Facebook.

She spoke at his sentencing hearing

After a nine-day trial, a unanimous verdict on Dec. 23, 2022, convicted Lanez of assaulting Megan with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.

The verdict came after a July 2020 incident when Lanez and Megan got into an altercation leaving Kylie Jenner’s pool party that escalated to the two of them stepping out of their car onto a sidewalk in Hollywood Hills.

According to prosecutors in court, as Megan began walking away, she heard Lanez shout, "Dance, bitch!" before he proceeded to shoot a 9mm pistol at her feet, hitting her five times and leading her to require surgery.

In August 2023, Chassagne attended Lanez’s sentencing hearing, advocating for him to receive a lesser sentence. Per The Daily Mail, Chassagne called the Canadian singer an “ambitious and trusting person.”

After he was sentenced to 10 years, the Florida native was seen crying outside the courthouse and being consoled by her friends.

They share one child together

Lanez and Chassagne welcomed their only child together, Kai’lon, on April 12, 2017. Before his trial started, Lanez posted a photo of himself brushing his teeth with Kai, writing in the caption, “i miss u so much …. Don’t know why they put me in a whole other state … but I can’t wait to see u twin. ❤️🥲.”

During his trial, the “Say It” singer often brought his son to court. Per TMZ, Kai visited his father in a California prison in January 2024, four months after he was sentenced.

Chassagne often posts videos of her son on her TikTok, including one in October 2023 where she wrote that he was “his daddy’s child all the way through” as he winked at the camera.

In an April 2024 TikTok, Chassagne filmed Kai saying, “Free the broski, my boy,” seemingly referring to his dad.

They got married in September 2023

Per court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Chassagne and Lanez’s date of marriage is listed as June 25, 2023, though neither publicly announced they were married at the time.

However, in September 2023, journalist Meghan Cuniff wrote on X that the two were married, according to court documents.

"From his sentencing hearing engagement announcement to his bail motion wedding announcement, Tory Lanez's relationship status has advanced rapidly in the last few weeks,” she wrote alongside the documents. "His fiancée is now his wife, according to the motion."

She filed for divorce in June 2024

Less than a year after they wed, Chassagne filed for divorce from Lanez, citing irreconcilable differences. Per the court documents, she is also seeking sole legal and physical custody of their son.

Per her filing, Chassagne did not request spousal support, but instead reserves for future determination at the discretion of the court.
