Tory MP Almost Choked To Death On Cocktail Sausage During Meeting with Tesco

It was supposed to be a vital opportunity to win investments for his constituency, but Conservative MP Chris Philp was almost killed as he choked on a cocktail sausage during an important meeting with Tesco.

The Croydon South MP choked on the meaty snack as he discussed plans for a Business Improvement District (BID) for the town - which Tesco had decided to vote against.

He said: ‘Simon and I had a rather tense negotiation – and I almost choked to death on a mini sausage.’

But the near-scape had its upsides too - with Tesco eventually deciding to support the BID.

Simon Cripps, the Conservative Business Improvement District chairman, said, ‘It might have been one of Chris’s worst moments but it was one of my funniest, seeing the public relations worker for Tesco having the local MP nearly choke to death in their office.’

Speaking of the Business Improvement District, a Tesco spokesperson added: ‘We know our store is extremely important to Purley and local customers and look forward to continuing to make a major contribution to the town centre.’
