A constituency which had been held by the Conservative Party for over a century has fallen to the Lib Dems as Rishi Sunak’s government has crumbled in Sussex.

Horsham MP Jeremy Quin had been the latest in a line of Tory politicians who had held the constituency for the party dating back to 1880.

But the MP has now been ousted by the Lib Dems as the Tories crumbled across Sussex with high profile politicians falling by the wayside.

Jeremy Quin took over the seat from fellow Tory Francis Maude when he won in 2015.

Mr Quin lost to Lib Dem candidate John Milne, who secured a majority of 2,500 votes for the party.

It comes as Conservative politicians in North Sussex fell with Crawley falling to Labour after Zack Ali tried to hold the constituency after Henry Smith announced he would step aside.

The Lib Dems take a number of seats across Sussex following their national success. Eastbourne, Chichester and Lewes all fell to Ed Davey’s party as well as Mid Sussex.

Tory minister Maria Caulfield, in Lewes, and Education Secretary Gillian Keegan, in Chichester, were both removed from their seats by Lib Dem candidates James MacCleary and Jess Brown-Fuller respectively.
