Tottenham fans plan extra Ugo Ehiogu tribute with a minute’s applause in the 44th minute of their FA Cup semi-final

Paddy Power branded 'sick' for offering odds on dead footballer Ugo Ehiogu to replace Birmingham City manager

A group of Tottenham fans have called on supporters inside Wembley Stadium to hold an additional minute’s applause for Ugo Ehiogu, who died on Friday morning.

The Spurs Under-23’s coach, who enjoyed a 20-year playing career most notably with Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, England and Glasgow Rangers, died following a cardiac arrest at Tottenham’s Enfield training centre on Thursday.

Tottenham, who play Chelsea in the first of the FA Cup semi-finals, confirmed on Friday that both sets of players would wear black armbands while a minute’s applause would be held before kick-off.

But a group of Spurs fans have rallied on social media to drum up support for an additional tribute in the 44th minute – to mark the age at which Ehiogu passed away.

A post originating from Hotspur Edition read: “On the 44th minute of the FA Cup semi-final can you please joins Spurs fans in a minute’s applause. To honour a great coach, father and husband. What better place than the national stadium to honour such a great man.
