Tottenham must get their recruitment decisions bang on this summer to take Ange Postecoglou's side to the next level. During his first two transfer windows, the Lilywhites have brought in eight players with James Maddison and Micky van de Ven among those to quickly establish themselves in the post-Harry Kane era for Spurs.

Despite funds in the region of £150million being spent, Spurs are in need of more options in a number of positions. Squad depth and homegrown issues are the problems that must be solved over the coming trading periods and for that to happen, Postecoglou, Daniel Levy and Johan Lange face many tough calls.

Players departing is also likely to occur with Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg among those who could move on. Making those sales could provide Tottenham with further funds to spend and as the club are one of few in the Premier League that have carefully stayed on the right line of profit and sustainability rules (PSR), more money is likely available.

With that said, here are five transfers Tottenham could make that would take Postecoglou much closer to his dream squad.

Timo Werner

For just £15million it is a bit of a no-brainer to sign Timo Werner on a permanent transfer. His poor goal output is of course a concern but what he currently brings to Spurs outweighs that, especially given it is unlikely there are many better options at that price.

Despite the complaints, the Germany international has managed two goals and three assists and is a perfectly good back-up option that can offer Postecoglou some needed squad depth, especially if European football is secured.

Tosin Adarabioyo

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are the clear first-choice options but further depth, alongside Radu Dragusin, would not go amiss. football.london understands that Spurs are expected to step up their firm interest in Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of a potential move at the end of his contract this June.

Spurs have been linked with the England international over the last few transfer windows and he can undoubtedly solve numerous problems and it would be on a free transfer. Those homegrown concerns would be greatly reduced if Spurs can agree a deal and his proven Premier League experience makes him that much more appealing.

Conor Gallagher

Another signing that could assist those worries would see Conor Gallagher join from Chelsea. The English midfielder has impressed this season but the Blues are keen to sell as any funds acquired from his departure would count as pure profit on their books and thus significantly help their growing profit and sustainability concerns.

The Lilywhites are in need of bulking their midfield ranks especially if Hojbjerg departs this summer and Gallagher could be his replacement. Chelsea will likely command a sizeable fee but Spurs may hold the upper hand in negotiations given they know of their rivals' financial situation.

Santiago Gimenez

Son Heung-min and Richarlison have done an admirable job in front of goal following the departure of Harry Kane, but it remains clear Tottenham need a goal-scorer.

Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez is certainly that with 24 goals in all competitions to his name this season. The 23-year-old is playing under former Spurs managerial target Arne Slot, known very well for his attacking football and therefore him thriving under Postecoglou is certainly feasible.

Arsenal have recently been linked with the Mexico international and therefore a tense battle could develop.

Hugo Larsson

It has become abundantly clear that Tottenham need a new No.6. Yves Bissouma shined in the role during the first few months of the season but he has struggled significantly since mid-October, in the wake of his sending off against Luton Town.

In reality, the profile of player Spurs will want barely exists with Rodri and Declan Rice perhaps the only two capable of marshalling the midfield with such dominance. However, Hugo Larsson of Eintracht Frankfurt could soon join the duo having been described as the 'next Rodri.'

Given he is just 19, it would be quite the gamble but he has played a key role this season and shown promise that he can reach those levels.
