The Tourist is back on our screens for season two, as Jamie Dornan reprises the role of Elliot exactly two years after the first season aired. But already fans are looking ahead to a potential third season, and hoping there might be more of The Tourist on our screens.
Here's what we know about The Tourist season three.
Has The Tourist season three been confirmed?
Currently, no. There's no word about whether The Tourist will return for a third season, but that doesn't mean it won't happen. In fact, season one was originally written as a standalone, before its success encouraged writers Harry and Jack Williams to change their minds and produce a season two. So maybe that could happen again?
That being said, Jamie Dornan previously revealed a large reason for saying yes to the second season was the fact it was filmed in Ireland, as it meant he didn't have to uproot his family. "My thinking was, 'Where are we going? Like, if we're doing this, where are we going?'" Dornan explained. "Because it was a bit of an upheaval to go to Australia, and the idea of going again so soon after… I mean, these guys don't have kids, I have three kids..."
When asked about a third season, the actor joked that it will "be in Canada" and that "scripts are already written."
What might happen in The Tourist season three?
It's hard to know for sure as it hasn't been confirmed yet, but season one and season two were not hugely comparable in terms of plot line, so we might deviate again. In season one, Elliot wakes up in Australia from a car accident with severe memory loss, and must try to discover who he is.
In season two, he and police constable Helen - who was trying to crack his case, and is now his girlfriend - must attempt to uncover even more secrets from his past, and are quickly dragged into a longstanding feud between notorious Irish families.
What that means for a season three is unclear - perhaps we could join Eliot on a fact-finding mission in another country, or attempting to change his ways in his hometown.
Who might star in The Tourist season three?
There would be any The Tourist without Jamie Dornan as Elliot. Elsewhere, fans could likely expect Danielle Macdonald to return as constable Helen Chambers.
In season two, we saw the introduction of a whole batch of new characters, which could also be the case for season three. Those included Conor MacNeill as Detective Ruairi Slater, Olwen Fouéré as Niamh Cassidy and the McDonnell family of Diarmaid Murtagh as Donal, Nessa Matthews as Orla, Mark McKenna as Fergal and Francis Magee as Frank.
