Exotic holidays to Indonesia could become a lot less boozy if a proposed bill to BAN alcohol is approved.

The Southeast Asian country is a favourite with young tourists who often head to the island of Bali to experience its famously vibrant nightlife.

But they may be forced to ditch the booze and instead opt for virgin cocktails - after two Islamic political parties put forward the motion of prohibition.

The divisive move is being spearheaded by the United Development Party and the Prosperous Justice Party.

There are some loopholes though: if introduced, the bill could see an exception for customary activities, religious rituals, and, perhaps most importantly, tourists.

Unsurprisingly, leading hotel operators are worried about how the ban could potentially affect business.

Hariyadi Sukamdani, the head of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association, told the Jakarta Post: ‘If the bill is passed, our business will be done. ‘The tourists … drink alcohol all the time. It will be very inconvenient for them if they can’t find alcohol.’
