Holidaymakers are being cautioned about a hefty £688 charge for merely visiting a bar in Mykonos. A disgruntled couple slammed a well-known restaurant on the Greek island as a "total rip off" after discovering they were billed £688 for just two drinks upon returning from their getaway.

The pair, who patronised DK Oyster, advised others to "avoid at all cost" and detailed their experience of being coerced into paying $876, which is approximately £688, for two beverages they were initially told would be 51 euros (£43) each.

They vented their frustration on TripAdvisor, saying: "Total rip-off! Make sure you get a receipt before leaving and check your credit card because they overcharge. Was told beds were free to sit it if we order food or drink," and added, "No problem....ordered 2 drinks which we afterwards saw were 51 euros each."

Their ordeal didn't end there, as they explained: "If that wasn't crazy enough we returned to the States and had a $876 charge on our account. FOR 2 DRINKS! ! ! " They also mentioned the difficulties they faced with their credit card company, stating: "Trying to dispute with our credit card company which is also a disaster because we never signed for anything or received a paper copy of a receipt. BEWARE and avoid this place! ! ".

In response, the owner of DK Oyster defended the establishment's practices. The manager retorted: "Our sunbeds come with minimum consumption, so we encourage all visitors to check the menus, before placing their orders. I would like to note that our menus are displayed on blackboards near the entrance, showing the prices of our food and drinks to keep our guests informed.", reports Birmingham Live.

He further commented: "If you wish, we can always provide further information about your order. I kindly request that you reconsider some of the harsh expressions used and accusations, as we strive to provide a positive experience for all our guests, and there is no intention on our part to spoil your experience."
