Toy Story 4 has confirmed that one major character will not return.

The film hits cinemas later this month but speaking recently, its director Josh Cooley revealed that Ken will not be making an appearance.

Voiced by former Batman actor Michael Keaton, Ken joined the franchise in Toy Story 3 as one of the toys already at the Sunnyside Daycare centre where Andy's toys end up.

And, despite a romance with Barbie, it seems Sunnyside is where Ken will stay, meaning he won't feature in the fourth movie.

"Ken is not in this film," Cooley said (via ComicBook.com). "He's back at Sunnyside."

Toy Story 4 producer Jonas Rivera added that they had to make some tough choices about which characters to include.

"We love Ken too – [but there's] a lot of characters," he explained.
