TRACY Brabin has been re-elected as Mayor of West Yorkshire.

Labour's Ms Brabin will stand for a second term after she came out on top when the result was declared on Saturday afternoon by gaining over half of the votes.

She got 275,430 votes (50.38 per cent) ahead of Conservative Arnold Craven (15.14 per cent), Andrew Cooper (Green) on 12.19 per cent, Bob Buxton (Yorkshire Party) on 8.77 per cent, Jonathan Tilt (Independent) on 8.49 per cent and Lib Dem Stewart Golton last on 5.03 per cent.

There was a Labour majority of 192,673 (35.24 per cent) and a turnout of 32.38 per cent.

Voters went to the polls on Thursday to choose who the next Mayor would be - representing the interests of 2.4 million people across the region.

Ms Brabin, who was previously the Labour MP for Batley and Spen, became the first-ever elected Mayor of West Yorkshire in May 2021.

How the Bradford district voted

There was a 33.7 per cent turnout for the Mayoral election in the Bradford district.

126,485 ballot papers were verified from the 375,488 electorate.

Ms Brabin secured 55,878 votes ahead of Independent candidate Jonathan Tilt (19,889) and Mr Craven (19,206).

What the Mayor of West Yorkshire does

Heading West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the Mayor works alongside five partner authorities – the councils of Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield – on issues including transport, housing and the economy.

The Mayor is also responsible for the functions of the Police and Crime Commissioner for West Yorkshire and is able to appoint a Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime.

Labour's Sadiq Khan secured just over 1,088,000 votes to be re-elected London Mayor, a majority of some 275,000 over Conservative rival Susan Hall, who secured just under 813,000 votes.

Andy Burnham was re-elected as Greater Manchester Mayor with 63.4 per cent of the vote, with Conservative Laura Evans on 10.39 per cent, and Dan Barker (Reform) on 7.46 per cent, ahead of Hannah Spencer (Green) 6.92 per cent and Jake Austin (Lib Dem) 4.25 per cent on a turnout of 31.77 per cent.
