Trader Joe's Issues Another Recall in 29 States After Salmonella Outbreak

Yet another item has been pulled from Trader Joe's shelves, and this time it's the result of a salmonella outbreak.

A Food Safety Alert posted on April 17 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that Infinite Herbs brand organic basil has been pulled from Trader Joe's stores in 29 states and Washington D.C following an outbreak of salmonella.

So far, there have been 12 illnesses and one hospitalization as a result of the outbreak. Of the 12 people sickened, seven of them "purchased or likely purchased" the Infinite Herbs basil (packaged in 2.5 oz clamshell-style containers) from Trader Joe's.

Infinite Herbs issued this statement on its website after the voluntary recall: "Your safety and satisfaction are of utmost importance to us, and we deeply regret any concerns this may have caused."

The CDC urged customers not to eat any contaminated basil, and if you purchased the basil from Trader Joe's, you can either toss it or return it.

Lastly, be sure to wash items and surfaces that may have had contact with the basil using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

If you experience any severe symptoms, including a fever higher than 102°F or diarrhea for more than three days, contact your healthcare provider.
