Traffic warning issued ahead of County Ground festival after serious crash

Thousands of drivers visiting a music festival at Swindon Town’s County Ground have been issued a traffic warning after a serious incident.

The County Ground is set to play host to Chris Moyles’ 90s hangover show on Saturday, May 25, with doors opening at 2pm.

Thousands of festival-goers are expected to visit to take in a full lineup of artists throughout the day.

But Swindon Borough Council has warned drivers to seek alternative routes to Queens Drive after a serious crash just minutes from the ground on Saturday morning.

A pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was struck by a car before 6am and has been taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The road remains closed from Whitbourne Avenue towards Drakes Way while collision investigators from Wiltshire Police examine the scene.

Queens Drive is not expected to reopen until mid-afternoon, and people heading to the County Ground have been urged to seek alternative routes.

A council spokesperson said: “Queens Drive remains closed from Whitbourne Avenue towards Drakes Way as Wiltshire Police carries out an investigation following a serious accident in the early hours of the morning.

“The road is likely to be closed until mid-afternoon.

“Motorists travelling to this afternoon's concert at the County Ground are advised to use an alternative route.”
