A schoolgirl was tragically discovered dead on the sofa by her distraught parents just a day after she started feeling unwell. Shaylisha Morrison's mother, Debbie, initially thought her 10 year old was sleeping.

The young girl had suddenly become ill 'out of the blue' and decided to lie down on the sofa to rest. However, the situation turned dire when Debbie's husband urgently told her to 'get an ambulance' upon realising that Shaylisha was 'not breathing'.

Despite the swift arrival of paramedics, nothing could be done to save Shaylisha. The family has stated that an initial post-mortem examination did not reveal the cause of her untimely death.

Debbie recounted: "It was a huge shock. On the Tuesday, she was in school. She came home and we went shopping. She was running around B&M and playing hide and seek with her brother.

"We got home and she was chasing her brother around the house and playing with her sister. On Wednesday, out of the blue she started being sick and had the runs. On the Thursday, she was gone."

On the day before she passed away in May, Shaylisha was suffering from 'really bad pain', enduring aches in her back and stomach, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. She had difficulty sleeping that night and continued to vomit the following day, reports the MEN.

Her worried parents, of Bury, placed her on the sofa, encouraging her to 'get some sleep'. Later that evening, Shaylisha was found unresponsive when her father Eddie checked on her.

Debbie expressed her disbelief, stating: "I couldn't believe it. "I thought she was playing games. My husband shouted "get an ambulance, she's not breathing. I picked her up and she just flopped. That's when I knew."

In a desperate bid for help, Debbie ran outside where two neighbours performed CPR on Shaylisha until paramedics arrived, but they were unable to save the young girl. The grieving mum confessed: "It still doesn't feel real, I still don't believe that she's gone. It's something I never in my life thought would happen."

Shaylisha and her twin sister Chardonnay were born prematurely and had bowel issues from birth, often suffering from stomach pains and constipation, which Debbie fears may have contributed to her daughter's untimely death.

The family now anxiously awaits an inquest due to open at Rochdale Coroners' Court on Friday, June 21, hoping it will provide them with much-needed answers. Chardonnay was hospitalised on June 3 - four days after Shaylisha's passing.

She remains in hospital in a stable condition receiving treatment. Debbie shared: "I've been at the hospital 24 hours a day. I've not had time to grieve properly. It's a worry that it could happen to her. They both suffered with the same thing. It's a lot of anxiety and stress. I can't sleep properly, it's like I'm in a dream I can't get out of."

In memory of her daughter, Debbie described Shaylisha as a 'happy little girl'. She fondly remembered: "She was always smiling and wanting to help others. She was a lovely bubbly child. Her and her twin sister were inseparable, they did everything together."

Following this heart-wrenching tragedy, efforts have been initiated to organise a fundraiser to aid in covering the funeral expenses for Shaylisha. Debbie said: "We're trying to give her the send-off that she deserves.

"She always dreamed of being Elsa from Frozen so we wanted to get her white horses and a white carriage. I never thought I would have to plan a funeral for my own child.

"I would understand if we had a diagnosis and she was terminally ill. We would have had time to come to terms with it but when all of a sudden she is gone, it's hard to even process that."
