Tragedy as woman, 31, dies in lorry crash

Police have confirmed a 31-year-old woman has died in a crash between a lorry and a car. The grieving family of the motorist, from Crewe, are being supported by specialist officers as an investigation into the smash continues.

Police, firefighters and paramedics had been called to the A49 through Oakmere in Cheshire yesterday (May 22) with the route subsequently shut off. Today and Cheshire Police have confirmed the car driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Now collision investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward as the constabulary has also said no arrests have been made. Emergency services, including Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service's major rescue unit - were scrambled to the stretch near Overdale Lane at around 7.40am yesterday (May 22).

On arrival officers found a white Renault Clio and a HGV had been involved in a collision. The woman, who was the driver of the Clio, died at the scene - with her family being supported by specialist officers. The driver of the truck was not hurt.

Sergeant Andy Dennison, of the force's serious and complex collision investigation unit, said: "The A49 is a busy road and as part of our investigation, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision to get in touch. The same goes for anyone who has any dashcam or CCTV footage that may help us determine how this incident occurred."

Witnesses should call the Cheshire constabulary on 101 and quote IML 1829539.
