Tragedy as woman, 50, dies after falling from bridge over M6 motorway

A woman has sadly died after falling from a bridge over the M6 motorway.

The 50-year-old tragically fell from the bridge at Barnacre, near Preston, yesterday afternoon (April 23). Emergency services were called to the scene at around 3.25pm.

The woman was found on the carriageway of the M6 northbound and was sadly pronounced dead on the scene. Lancashire Police said her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A file will be passed to the coroner. "Our thoughts are very much with her family and loved ones at this distressing time", police added.

No vehicles were involved in the incident. As emergency services responded, the M6 was shut on the northbound side for several hours.

It was closed between junction 32 and junction 33. The motorway was fully reopened by around 7.45pm.
