Rail passengers travelling to and from Weymouth are experiencing delays due to a fallen tree on the line.

Services are currently at a standstill between Wool and Weymouth due to a tree which has fallen on the line between Wool and Dorchester South.

Disruption started at around 7am and it is expected until 12pm today.

Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed or revised.

It was confirmed trains between London Waterloo and Weymouth would terminate and start from either Wool or Wareham station.

Travellers were advised that their tickets will be valid on the Great Western Railway services between Weymouth and London Paddington via Westbury.

Replacement bus services were running between Wareham and Weymouth.

All lines reopened at around 8am and normal service was resumed at around 10am.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "We have been informed that there is a tree on the line between Wool and Dorchester South. This means that all lines are currently blocked between these stations. Until further details are known about the incident as our specialist teams are working to clear the tree from the track.

"Until further notice the following alterations will be necessary:

"Trains between London Waterloo and Weymouth will terminate and start from either Wool or Wareham station.

"To assist you with your journey your ticket will be accepted, at no extra cost to yourself, on the following services:

"Great Western Railway services between Weymouth and London Paddington via Westbury
For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a use a station help point.

"We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey."
